Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059

FAQs

Will insurance cover my session?

  • Your insurance may not cover any or all of the session fee. This depends on the type of plan you have. For instance, individuals with higher deductibles will likely need to pay more out of pocket first before insurance will pay anything. While some individuals will have only a copay to pay. It is best to call insurance prior to session to get the most accurate and up to date information for out of pocket costs for you.

  • The insurance rate and private pay rate are not the same thing and some plans may be less or same based on the insurance you have.

  • Some insurances may have limitations on telehealth sessions or how many sessions that will cover per a year (this is typically self pay plans that are not part of the marketplace).

What if you do not take my primary insurance?

  • Many commercial insurance plans will offer out of network benefits. If your plan allows this, we can provide you with a Superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursements. Do note, if you are requesting a Superbill for reimbursement that your payment is due to New Step upfront for the full amount. We do offer reduced fees to qualifying individuals when requested.

Where can I participate in my telehealth session?

  • Prior to your visit, a secure link will be sent to you via email that will gain you access for the meeting.

  • You must be in the state of Kentucky at time of the visit, unless previously approved for you to be out of the state.

  • Ensure that you have a private, secure and safe environment to participate in session.
