Meet Debra Schapiro, LPCC: Lexington, KY Therapist

Debra Schapiro is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (Kentucky) dedicated to the practice of a relationally integrated psychotherapy alongside art therapy, mindful based therapy with a spiritual underpinning. Debra acknowledges each person’s human need for a spiritual connection whatever that may be. She does not provide faith-based counseling but recognizes the importance of one’s personal connection within their beliefs and that helps guide their personal growth.

She holds a Master of Community Mental Counseling from the University of Texas at El Paso, and a Master of Arts in Art Therapy from Vermont College and Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont. With 6 years of clinical experience in working with children/adolescents in residential treatment (covering issues like developmental growth, child/adolescent anxiety, depression, and family issues) and family art therapy, Debra’s passion and specialty focuses on a holistic approach to improve the individual and relationships.

Over the past 15 years, she has worked with issues involving depression, grief, loss, and growing old with dignity with goals for greater independence, anger and stress. She has worked in community mental health, specialty areas of sexual abuse and rape. She has also worked as a volunteer therapist with cancer survivors, teen groups associated with a Free Clinic in Los Angeles, a child grief center, and family grieving a loss of a family member.

Debra enjoys Tai Chi, reading, nature, animals, music, art, and spending time with friends.

Debra accepts: Aetna and Self Pay clients. Debra is able to accept Cigna and United healthcare insurance plans Out Of Network (OON).
